Real-time PCR for detection of Clostridium chauvoei, C. septicum, C. novyi, and C. sordelii
Clostridia are fastidious anaerobic, spore-forming, rod-shaped, Gram-positive bacteria. They are found either as living cells (vegetative forms) or as dormant spores. Their natural habitats are soils and intestinal tracts of animals and humans.
Differentiation of the various Clostridium species is based on cultural characteristics, biochemical reactions, protein profile (Maldi-Tof), and/or antigenic specificity of toxins or surface antigens.
More recently PCR assays specific to several Clostridium species have been developed and have facilitated their identification in culture and various environmental and clinical samples.
Numerous Clostridium species cause diseases in humans and various animal species.
Multiplex qPCR for C. chauvoei, C. septicum, C. novyi, and C. sordellii
We are now offering a multiplex real-time PCR assay (qPCR) allowing detection and differentiation of the four Clostridium species involved in the conditions described in the linked document.
- pieces of affected tissues (minimum 5 cm x 5 cm x 5 cm, wrapped in absorbent paper towels and placed in a tightly closed container)
- swab cultures of affected tissues (swabs without transport medium or with 0.5 mL sterile saline to preserve moisture)
- samples must be stored at 4-8°C.
Biovet will issue the test results within 24 to 48 hours.
These tests are conducted from Monday to Friday.
