Comparison of serological assays for Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae

The Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae ELISA Oxoid/Dako kit, which many considered the reference in Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae serology, became unavailable in 2020 before being permanently withdrawn from the market in 2021.

We have recently compared 3 serological assays that could possibly replace the Oxoid/Dako test i.e.:

To do this, we used serum samples originating mostly from gilts on multiple Canadian farms (mainly in Quebec and Western Canada). These sera were initially examined with the Oxoid/Dako test and then stored at -20°C. After thawing, they were examined using the HIPRA, IDEXX and Biovet kits. All assays were conducted in accordance with the manufacturers’ instructions.

The status of each serum (“true positive” = POS or “true negative” = Neg in the tables) was established “at the majority of the 4 tests”. Samples with an equal number of positive and negative results were considered problematic and excluded from the study. Note that “questionable” (“non-negative”) results with the IDEXX and HIPRA tests were considered “positive”. Finally, 174 sera were selected for comparison.

The results are presented in the tables in the linked document:

Ci-dessous le prix des différents tests disponibles :
